I found out my site has some loose css and .js files...is minify safe to use?
(or any other script/program in this case)

If Wordpress and Zend uses it I guess it couldn't harm, right?

I uses a minify php from github, works good.

any other options to make them smaller?
240kb of css and more than 800kb of js is still pretty big...
I'm not blaiming the script for making too much traffic, I'm just saying that some users might not be pleased by the time it takes to load a page

The cms comes with development scripts, they are expected to be compressed for production
Also using a subdomain for a cdn is a good option.
