I work with PostgreSQL very long time. and for heavy site is very good choice.
I think phpvibe must support active-record to support other database easily.
http://www.phpactiverecord.org/ is good and easy choise;

I understand, but would take a lot of recoding, and right now time is a severe issue for this upgrade.
