sorry. My host has just advised me that that phpVibe was abusing the CPU thresholds of my hosting account. It was due to cron.php

Is there anything I can limit in cron.php as this testing account is on a shared server.

thanks

That is never a php issues :)

Simply remove the crons from admin and clear cache.
Cron imports are heavy.

Thanks, but i removed all the cron jobs in the admin panel and cleared the cache. Next day i had the same issue again with the host. Are there any crons out of the admin panel that run ?

Is it safe to delete the cron.php file so it wont run again ?

If you use local media on shared hosting is normal to receive this warning message from the host.
On embed media I've tested and works with 20k daily unique without problems.
Also depends on where you host. Many companies offer very few resources to package and a very small number of concurrent connections.

I use this two hosting services.
1. 7 euro Vps on Leaseweb
2. Shared hosting on gsoftcentral. 5 euro package

@shpeedie important would be if you provide your package limitations, so we can start from that.
It's safe to delete cron.php
